Slip-decorated Hanafuda designs
Japanese prints were part of our upbringing as we had prints on the walls of our family home. And the Japanese way of life and attitude to ceramics and pottery was very much revered in our family. I recently discovered a small box of Japanese playing cards that a friend had given me many years ago and which I had kept because I loved the images. These cards are for a game called Hanafuda, and it is some of these images which I have used in these ceramic dishes, wall hangings and slab vases. There will be more.
